Description

  • Plaque
  • Iron.
  • L. 8.1 cm. Plaque: l. 5.8 cm., ht. 2.3 cm., central portion straight-edged for ca. 4.5 cm., tapering to 8 mm. Hook: diam. 1.25 cm., inner diam. 6.5 mm., shaft th. 4 x 4 mm. tapering to ca. 2.5 x 2.5 mm.
  • An elongated plaque of complex curvature, serving as the bar linking two elements by means of large hooks curling forwards at each end. The plaque is convex in horizontal section, concave in vertical section, to make a showy element at the front of whatever strapping was tied back from the plate through the open hooks. From the long rectangular face the plaque tapers sharply at each end into the rounded shafts that curl back folowing the curve of the plaque itself, and then curl forward into open, projecting hooks. These hooks, of squared section with tapered tips, do not come as far forward as the face of the show plate, in horizontal section. One is bent open; the other, warped vertically, still preserves the hook diameter.
  • Rusted, encrusted, corroded.
