Description

  • Spindle whorl
  • Stone
  • Diam. ca. 4 cm., ht. 1.65 cm., hole diam. 8 mm.
  • A round pierced disk of semispherical section with flat bottom, perhaps a very heavy spindle whorl. It was crudely made: the section is irregular, flattened at one side, and the large hole was well-drilled but set off-axis towards the thicker side. Traces of wear at its rim appear on both faces of the object. rnA smaller, terra cotta spindle whorl, O 471, emerged in this same SU 8000.
  • Fair. Intact, worn, with a shallow wide chip across the flat bottom and a few tiny chips in its edge. Some encrustations and root marks.
