Description

  • tripod fitting, or hook
  • Iron
  • Long arm, l. 5.9 cm; th. 7 x 5 mm at the tip, 10 x 10 mm. Short arm, l. 34 mm, and 22 mm below from inner angle to tip; w., at the join 10 mm, max. 13 mm at base of depicted thumbnail, and at the tip, 11 mm. Th., 9 mm. near the join, 5 mm. at the end. Short arm, bottom: oval plane of attachment surface is 17 mm long, 11 mm wide.
  • Thumb-shaped fitting from an iron stand or tripod, with pointed nail at the end, and a pronounced knuckle at the bend. Possibly the support for a dish. The interpretation of the piece as a curtain hook, while not impossible, seems difficult in the context.
  • Medium to poor. Surface rusted and evenly, lightly encrusted; contours and surface articulation intact.
  • For a similar mount in silverErdélyi 1931, 1-28. 293-299, from the Budapest Museum; for an iron tripod Künzl 1998, 218-227 with Abb. 90-97.
