- Tree fragment, statuary supporting element
- 3rd c. AD?
- Densely grained white marble (Italian) with no streaking.
- Ht. 3.2 cm max.; w. 4.3 x. 3.5 cm. Projection, 1.7 x 1.4 cm section, .5 cm max. current w.
- Fragment broken at both ends, surfaces worn and encrusted, large chip on side.
- This is a fragment of a small twig growing from a thicker branch. It is an irregular ovoid in section, and is slightly curved; at one end is a small projection, perhaps a twig, also ovoid in section. A tiny segment of its rounded outer surface is preserved.
- This section of a branch or thin miniaturised trunk with traces of one projecting small branch or twig will have depicted a setting for a statue or statue group. It is not impossible that the tree interlace formed part of the Amazon group.
