Interpretation

    • The stratum was the fill for a posthole which was deposited in two phases. In the first phase, the cut was filled with a post. In the second, the pole decomposed, creating a stratum.

  • The stratum was relatively uniform throughout with a composition of clayey sand and a friable compaction. The color remained mid-yellowish brown throughout. The surface of the stratum contained a few inclusions of tile fragments. In the center of the stratum the size and quantity of tile fragments increased and were placed in an irregular manner. The lower level of the stratum contained larger number of mortar fragments and a piece of painted plaster.
