Interpretazione

    • This cut and its fill seem to be outside of the pattern seen in the Western end of the trench. However, it is possible that it was constructed in the same phase.

    • This layer can be interpreted as fill of cut US 8037. It was formed in two phasesò the first when large inclusions and white stones at the base served as supports for a wooden post. The soil fill accumulated after the disintegration of this post.

  • The surface of this layer extends above the surface of the surrounding stratum SU 8041 for the presence of large fragments of brick and mortar disposed in a sub-circular formation with no discernable pattern in the use of materials. The layer was composed also of friable soil, with uniform consistency and composition throughout, and marked by a lack of inclusions except for a few medium-sized roughly hewn calcareous stones found at the base of this layer.
  • This layer was excavated in its entirety. Unlike the other fills excavated relative to this phase, this fill is marked by a lack of carbon inclusions.
