  • Heavily compacted clay. At the top the plough had introduced elements of 13002, etc., which were also present (as slippage?) around a metre down.
  • The distinction on the west side of the trench was very clear, as it was for most of the e side. However, at a lower level it seems to have been cutting a very similar stratum, 11022, which represents the first fill of the terracing cut. Not excavated uniformly: to save labour a deeper cut was carried out on the west side, but it proved impossible to bottom.
