- The fragment is carved on one side. One adjacent side and the reverse were roughly finished. One break is very straight and was probably an intentional cut. Another break is uneven. The carved surface is worn and pitted where pebble inclusions in the limestone have dropped out.
- AE 1070 preserves a simple tri-band geometrical interlace motif that was uncommon. Three trisected bands rise and fall in waves, which are identical with respect to wavelength and amplitude, but out of sync, so that the crest of one aligns with the trough of another.
- Limestone was used for the bulk of the liturgical furnishings that once decorated the churches of nearby Norba, on western slopes of the Carpetino Romano and further afield in Lazio. See examples in the Museo Civico, Bagnoregio probably from S. Giacomo alla Capraccia (now destroyed; Raspi Serra 1974, nos 5c and 5d).
- AE 1069 is also carved in limestone.
