Description

  • color, compaction, composition
  • trowel
  •
  • sandy clay
  • grayish black
  • medium-loose
  • poor
  • man-made
  • stones, small pebbles
  •
  • tresserae, pottery, cubiliae, fresco, mortar, marble
  • Fill of a cut into the crollo of the frescos with many pieces of larger rubble (primarily what appears to be destruction rubble from the walls as mortar and cubiliae are present). The size of the rubble distinguishes this SU from the surrounding material, though both contain similar artificial components.
  • This cut seems clearest by the west end around wall 6091, and is particularly difficult to find in the east end. Bottoms onto a white layer containing a good deal of fresco.
