Description

  • Inlay
  • Bone
  • L. 5.7 cm., w. max. ca. 7.5 mm., w. at end ca. 3.5 mm., th. ca. 2.5 mm, diam. nail hole 2 mm.
  • A narrow inlay strip decoratively engraved, with one nail hole in what seems to have been a plain central section. It preserves a roughly trapezoidal contour above a staright finished long side, with a plain short central section demarcated by two engraved lines each side. To one side of the central segment one end is broken diagonally away, the break cutting back from just after the central section across these lines. The extant long arm with short finished tip segment is engraved with four vertical zones of texture, separated by double lines: from the center out, a diagonally hatched band, a plain band slashed by one double diagonal, a crosshatched band, another plain band slashed by a double-line diagonal. The nail hole on the plain center face is near this engraved side. There may be original pigment darkening some lines.
  • Highly polished, clean.
