Villa Magna

Interpretation

    • HRU 4101 is likely part of a larger system of graves oriented on a S-N axis in the Northern area of the churchyard. It is also part of a larger grave sequence and has at least one skeleton buried below it (HRU 4097).

Description

  • juvenile skeleton situated near SU 4018 near the western edge of the trench
  • trowel, small tools, brushes
  • Fossa terragna, multipla. A number of skeletons were paved one on top of the other in a single grave.
  • not covered, just filled with dirt
  • S-N
  • Not well preserved. A large number of the bones are missing, incluing the feet, arms, head and part of the spine.
  • Decent. The bones are very dry and fragile. Many were cracked or crushed prior to excavation.
  • Juvenile skeleton situated along the western edge of the trench near wall, SU 4018. Is part of a group grave and rests above HRU 4097, which seems to have been disturbed by the interment of 4101.
  • All graves in this area were disturbed for the creation of 4018; the fill of the foundation trench for this wall is full of scattered bones. The missing bones may be due to a skeleton buried above 4101. There are a large number of bones too big to belong to 4101 in the fill that are likely those of HRU 3097 below, whose grave was disturbed for the burial of 4101. Cut 4099 may cut this skeleton.
