    • This fill was formed in two phases: the first was when the supports (comprised of large stone, tile and brick fragments) were used as supports for a post. The soil accumulated because of and after the distintegration of this post.

  • The surface of this pothole extends above the level of the surround stratum SU 8041 for the presence of large fragments of brick, tiles, and roughly measures in length 10-30 cm oriented vertically within the limit of this cut SU 8035. At the interior of this subcircular arrangement there is a friable soil, dark brown in color with the presence of charcoal inclusions that are more concentrated in the lower two-thirds of the stratum. This soil has a fine-grained matrix which is friable and porous. The smaller inclusions (besides the charcoal) were randomly but evenly distributed throughout the stratum. The marble fragment was found at the base of this stratum at the boundary of the cut and fill.
  • This stratum is distributed within the form created by cut SU 8035. It seems that this piece of marble found at the base of this stratum may have added additional support to the post placed inside this hole.
