Villa Magna

Interpretation

    • Perhaps a defensive ditch cut in the Medieval period to protect the contemporary settlement. It might be associated with 5005 rather than cut it.

  • This is the cut of the ditch that runs N-S in the western edge of the trench at the south edge the ditch/cut begins to curve east perhaps to avoid the structure 5019 that exists at the southern end of the ditch and extend south into the section. The ditch cuts 5005, 5007, 5008, 5014, 5015, 5016, 5017, 5018, 5020, 5025, 5026, 5027, 5024.
  • This is a very large cut/ditch that seems too big to be agricultural work. The pottery appears to be 6-8 century.
