Description

  • trowel, pick
  • E-W: 3.0 m; N-S: 5.0 m
  • silty, clayey soil
  • dark tawney brown
  • compact
  • good
  • artificial
  • clay, small stones (<5 cm), marble
  • ash, charcoal
  • worked marble and limestone, glass, chunks of mortar, fragments of bricks
  • Flat, shallow layer of earth in west L.O.E. It varied in thickness from .5 to 15 cm, thicker on western side where it slopes down to the west away from the remains of 4203.
  • Not easily distinguished from 4149. Also difficult to distinguish from the layer below. In the northern edge the context was significantly darker than in southern part. It may have been cut by the robber trench 4141, as the line of that cut corresponds in part to the change in components.
